Present-Use Tax Forestry Plans

Recently, county tax offices have been putting forest landowners under greater scrutiny regarding Present Use or Use-Value Assessment Programs.  Landowners may have considerable financial incentive for enrollment in this program, depending on specific conditions.  To qualify under the forestry exemption, landowners must own 20 acres or more of growing timber that is enrolled in "sound management."  There are also additional categories that property can be enrolled under, each with seperate requirements: agriculture, horticulture, and wildlife conservation.

Landowners are allowed to file their own plans, but if the plan is written by a third party, the author must be a NC Registered Forester.  Often, landowners receive free plans that do not reflect the goals they feel are important.  Historically, many foresters call for removal of hardwood stands in favor of pine plantations.  Wildland Forestry & Environmental is dedicated to its customers and their outlook for properties that they own .  Forest Management Plans are discussed with the landowner in great detail before being filed with the local tax office.  You'll never see WFE submit a plan that you're not in total agreement with.

 MULTIPLE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Most landowners do not own contiguous forest stands with one species, nor do they want to.  The average managed parcel has a combination of forest, open area, pasture, crop fields, and wildlife food plots.  Other land uses include mushroom or truffle farming, airstrips, commercial facilities, aquaculture ponds, nurseries, etc.  Proper planning is vital to ensuring each operation can continue without interruptions by operations on other areas.
